Important Aspects of Women’s Health

When it comes to health, women seem to carry the brunt of the package.

After all, there are countless doctors who specialize specifically in the care and treatment of women, whether they be Obstetricians, Gynecologists, or a mixture of both in an OBGYN.

So what makes women’s health so complicated and so important that it warrants designated doctors specifically geared towards the treatment of it?

Pregnancy

The first obvious answer is that of pregnancy. Women carry nearly the sole biological responsibility of reproduction. After fertilization has occurred, the woman takes it from there.

During these nine months, women face many changes in their health. Not only is their body growing in size, but it is also sharing their precious resources and nutrients with the baby.

This takes a toll on the health of the woman, which is why it is so important for women to go to regular checkups while they are pregnant.

This time can be very overwhelming not just for women, but also for their partners.

Many clinics and doctor’s offices offer pregnancy education classes for both women and their partners to prepare themselves for the huge responsibility of birthing a baby.

Balance your Hormones

Another aspect of women’s health that is extremely important is that of hormonal health. The balance of hormones in a woman’s body is a very delicate one, and even a slight imbalance can create dramatic problems.

Hormones regulate the reproductive and menstrual cycle of women and aid in their overall health and wellbeing.

Any disruption in the balance of the hormones can lead to irregular cycles, mood swings, depression, or excessive bleeding during a woman’s period.

Cancer Screening

It is also vital that women are checked regularly for various types of cancer. Breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, and other female cancers can often be detected early by going in for checkups with the doctor.

Pap smears can be performed during your regular wellness exam, as well as a breast exam. Women should also regularly check themselves for any abnormalities they can detect in their breasts and other areas.

Anything that seems out of the ordinary should be discussed with your physician. It’s better to talk to your doctor and have it be nothing than to withhold your questions and find out too late that something serious is going on.

Menopause

Later in life, women begin to undergo menopause, where their bodies begin to shift from reproductive years to a more dormant state.

This shift affects women in many ways, including changes in hormonal balances and the physical body. Menstrual cycles cease, while hot flashes and occasional mood swings become more prevalent.

No matter what stage of life you are in as a woman, there are aspects of your female health that you should not ignore.

It is important to see your physician regularly to check for any problems and make sure that everything is functioning as it should.

While it is easy to put off your health, being proactive and taking care of yourself is the best way to ensure you will live a long, happy life.
